ARCADIA, Calif. – The lack of significant winter rain and the robust amount of tall dry grass has prompted the Angeles National Forest to raise its Fire Danger Level from “Moderate” to “High” effective Friday, April 26.

The new designation is to enhance public awareness that fire-risk conditions are intensifying. The vegetation-moisture readings have started to decline, grasses at lower elevations have begun to cure earlier then normal and recent fire activity has increased.

The designation of “High” is the third in a six-level, graduated fire-danger rating system, shown in the below graphic. Factors determining the levels include vegetation-moisture levels, weather conditions and available firefighting resources.

Despite the change, there are no new campfire restrictions. Open wood and charcoal fires will still be permitted in approved “developed” campgrounds and picnic areas. Propane or jelled gas stoves and grills are permitted in non-developed areas with a valid California Campfire Permit.

Forest visitors should check spark arrestors (required year-round) on off-road vehicles, chain saws and other equipment with internal-combustion engines to ensure they are in working order. Drivers in the forest should stay on designated roads and never park on dry brush or grass, to avoid the risk of starting a fire.

NOTICE TO RESIDENTS & BUSINESS OWNERS

The City of Monrovia’s Public Works Department awarded a contract to D.J. SCHEFFLER, INC. to do the street repair at two (2) locations along Santa Anita Canyon Road. On December 10, 2012 we will start construction of the above project.

Anticipated completion date: April 2013.

The general scope of work includes excavation, drilling of pile shafts, installation of soldier piles and wood logging, grading, asphalt removal and replacement, drainage and street striping.

We understand that this construction project will impact residents and businesses in your neighborhood; we want to assure you that we will do everything possible to minimize this impact.

During construction one lane of the roadway will remain open, we will make every effort to maintain access to and from Chantry Flats property at all times, including emergencies, providing flagmen to assist us during construction activities.

Our work hours are from Monday to Friday from 7:00 a.m. to 5:00 p.m., and no construction is anticipated during weekends.

For your safety, please observe and comply with all posted construction and traffic signs. The street will be open for traffic at the end of each work day, or whenever construction work is not in progress.

Construction Schedule Update:

We were told by the contractor that the road will be closed Monday, Feb 25 from 9 am – 12 noon.

Chantry Road Closed on Monday, February 25
The contractor will be bring up a skip-loader on a over-sized trailer on Monday. They cannot be on the roads until after 9 am and so will be on the Chantry road after that. The road will be closed until they can get up, unload, and get back down. Plan for 9 to 12. Don’t get stuck up the hill.

Mon, Feb 4 through Fri, Feb 8 2013 – Drilling piles at southern area. Intermittent lane closure only as necessary for few minutes at a time. One lane of the roadway will remain open.

Monday, January 14, 2013 – No work scheduled.

Concert Line-Up:

For those of you who do not know Monica, she is married to our Dutch oven chef Eric, so you can be sure that her sandwiches are made with the same care and attention to detail present in Eric’s pulled pork.

If all goes well, she will also be here on Labor Day, September 3rd.

Concert Line-Up:

This is genuine Dutch Oven cooking. Eric starts roasting pork shoulder very early in the morning so that it is fork-tender by lunch time. His sauce recipe is a secret, but it is a little bit sweet, a little bit spicy and a little bit smokey. The other thing that makes Eric’s sandwiches stand out are the fresh-baked “Dutch Crunch” rolls. He lines them with a vinegar-based coleslaw then piles a generous scoop of meat.

We’ll say it again: This is a treat, don’t miss out! Served from 11:00 am – 5:30 pm. Ice cold beer is available to complete the package.
