Lila Adams Passes Away

Lila AdamsLila Adams, who ran Adams’ Pack Station for 35 years with her husband Bill, has passed away on September 22nd, 2013.

Bill and Lila were married and moved into the pack station in 1953, when it still had a crank phone to the city and an outhouse in back. They steadfastly upheld the packing tradition and a cordial attitude through many fires, floods, regulations and cultural changes that affected Big Santa Anita Canyon.

“This is a great loss. I find myself struggling with how to continue such a great tradition. Lila had such a kind touch. Everyone who knew her loved her.” ~Deb Burgess, owner of Adams’ Pack Station

The news of Lila’s passing brings both sadness and joy to my heart. Sadness, because I will miss her smile. Joy as she is at peace in a better place. I knew of Lila and Bill and the pack station years before I had the honor of meeting charming and gracious Lila in early 1974. I had just purchased cabin #2 and Lila took care of the paper work. During the later years Lila and Bill became dear friends. I have so may anecdotes of lovely Lila they could fill a book. Lila and Bill were two of the most devoted, honorable, loveable and loving people I have ever known! An inspiration to all who knew the them. To speak of Lila or Bill individually never seemed correct. Now, they are together again! God speed my dear friends! With love, Bill and dear Lila, you both will live forever in my memory!

Lila left us on such a beautiful day, to join her beloved Bill. And she left Adams’ in the capable and caring hands of you Deb. I have no doubt you will continue to do the Adams’ proud…

My Mom, Lucy, and Lila were best friends for most of their lives. I know that my Dad, Hank and my Mom treasured their trips to California to spend time with Lila and Bill at the Adam’s Pack Station. They came home with wonderful stories and a ton of pictures. Dear Auntie Lila it is so great that you have a new beginning joining Bill, Lucy and Hank along with so many others in heaven. God rest you and bring peace to family and friends left behind. Still keeping the candle burning at Star Lake. Love always. Bob
