Rich Conforti 1952 – 2013

Rich ConfortiMany of you knew Rich as the guy who would cook you a “perfect canyon dog” or give you a hard time about not parking right, or tell a joke, or a story.

But that was only part of who Rich was. Rich loved to play golf, was an avid Celtics, Red Sox, Patriots fan, a wonderful father, great companion, and someone you could always call to cheer you up by making you laugh.

I have known Rich for 32 years. He was the love of my life and my very best friend in the entire world.

I miss him so much already.

Play well Rich. You are under par on your final hole.

I was just looking to see what the pulled pork schedule was and saw this announcement. My family and friends have been hiking Big Santa Anita Canyon for years and always ended our trips with food and refreshments and hanging out with Rich. I’m so sad to see this news and can’t imagine not seeing him at the end of our journeys! He will be missed; I miss him already!

So sad. My friend Annie and I hiked Chantry every weekend for several years. We called it our “hot dog hike”. Rich always made us laugh with his dirty jokes and flirtatious charm. And he always cooked our hotdogs perfectly – almost burnt on 1/2 of a bun. Rich’s unique personality infused the pack station with life and laughter. Hiking Chantry will never be the same. We will miss him.

The Big Santa Anita Canyon Permittees Association board and all the cabin owners send their sympathies to Deb, Jason, Candace and all at the Pack Station on the loss of Rich. He was always a highlight of visiting the Pack Station, and I, for one, will miss his big hugs and his laughter. I hope he continues to make veggie burgers (“cardboard burgers” as he sarcastically called them) up yonder. It will drive him crazy! Love you Rich and Miss you already.

  8. Kiley says:

God Bless You and your family and thank you both for keeping Chantry special.
